Baggage Transportation

Ride The Rockies will transport one bag per cyclist (70 lbs. max.) throughout the Tour from HQ to HQ (not hotels). A non-framed waterproof durable duffel bag is suggested. Trash bins are not allowed. This type of luggage is hard to maneuver and is dangerous for our baggage staff to load. This one bag must include your tent and sleeping bag (if camping), and clothing for the week.

There are three baggage trucks: early, middle and late. The early and middle trucks leave when they are full. The late truck leaves the host community at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Cyclists may drop off bags starting at 5:30 a.m. and are responsible for loading their own bags onto the truck. Afternoon pick-up will be located at the designated baggage area at the headquarters site in the destination town. RTR baggage service does not coordinate with Sherpa Packer or Summit Cycle Solutions for baggage pick-ups/drop-offs.

SCS Baggage Transfer

For an additional fee, RTR event attendees have the option to book luggage transportation through the Summit Cycle Solutions booking platform. This is the ideal product for those who book lodging through SCS or might be staying at unique properties such as VRBO, Airbnb’s etc. For more information, visit SCS Luggage Transportation.

A few notes about SCS baggage transfer...

  • Bag pickups start at 5:30 a.m., and end at 9:00 a.m. SCS will have three trucks running in circulation for drop offs/pick ups from lodging properties
  • If you book lodging outside of SCS (not recommended), then they will need to know your pick-up/drop-off locations. You may note these locations on the checkout form. Attendee accommodations must be within 10 miles of each host town entertainment site.
  •  Bags may not exceed 70lbs. One bag per booking.

SCS Payment & Cancellation Policies:
Payment in full is required at the time of booking as inventory is live. Cancellations shall incur a 20% administrative fee on the total reservation amount (including taxes).

NO baggage transportation cancellations shall be allowed after March 15th, 2017.

Where does my bike sleep?

What do you do with your bike at the end of the day? Easy, you put it the Bike Corral at the HQ site! We would like to discourage riders staying in hotels, motels, and B&B's from bringing their bikes into their  rooms, due to the potential for getting grease in the rooms and affecting RTR's reputation with our lodging providers. Each town will have a bike corral with volunteers keeping a watchful eye from 10:00 a.m. on the day of arrival until 9:00 a.m. on the day of departure. Security will ensure that the bike tag number on your bike matches the wristband number you’ve been assigned. No one will be allowed to remove a bike from the corral without proper identification. We recommend you bring a lock for use at other locations.

NOTE: Ouray will provide a bike corral downtown on June 14 for participants staying in lodging properties. However, RTR will not transport bikes from Ridgway to Ouray or Ouray to Ridgway on buses. This means that, should you choose to stop in Ouray on June 14 instead of finishing in Ridgway, you are responsible for riding your bike  on June 15 from Ouray, or getting your bike to the start in Ridgway via your own transportation. RTR route support will be available to participants that ride their bikes from Ouray on June 15.
