62.8 Miles/2925’ Elevation Gain
Highlights – Kebler Pass, Ohio Pass, the Castles
Route Opens: 8:00am – 10:00am
Route closes: 3:00pm

The 1 Day Loop  is  a 62.8-mile which starts in Gunnison, then heads north on State Highway 135, which bisects the Gunnison Valley as it gently ascends to Crested Butte. Total climbing for this route is approximately 2,925 feet, and you’ll pass through the small hamlet of Almont, which sits at the confluence of East and Slate Rivers, which together form the Gunnison River.

Connecting with the full week riders in Crested Butte, the 2nd half of the 1 Day Loop packs a punch. Passing through Crested Butte, you’ll roll west out of town up Kebler Pass. The first few miles are paved, but smooth tarmac soon gives way to packed dirt road and it stays that way for most of the next 16 miles, as you first head toward the summit of Kebler Pass (but don’t quite get there). Right before that summit, you’ll take a left onto Ohio Pass Road, which leads to the day’s high point at just a shade above 10,000 feet.

From there it’s almost all downhill or flat, as you head south off Ohio Pass, winding through massive Aspen groves before the views open up.  On a clear day you can spot 14,309 foot Uncompahgre Peak and the distant San Juan Mountain Range to the south.  To the west, keep an eye out for the Castles rock formation. (You’ll know it when you see it.) Around mile 18 the route returns to pavement for the final pastoral push to the finish in Gunnison.

Registration:  $95 includes full route support including aid stations, a rocking party on your return to Gunnison and a commemorative t-shirt.
