Today is day three of Ride The Rockies.
Day one was rough but it was very fun. I saw a moose for my first time! I love the whole biking community because everyone is so nice and happy. Everyone loved our tandem.
Unfortunately, my dad’s knee was causing him pain so I had to lug him and our one million pound bike up Tennessee Pass and Battle Mountain. It wasn’t that bad. On the ride we made friends with some of the other tandem bikes.
That night we stayed in tent city. I loved the showers! To preserve my dad’s knee our team, my brother, Tristan, my uncle, David, My dad, John and I, took day two off which I heard was brutal. Instead, we went to Strawberry Hotsprings in Steamboat. We relaxed in the hot water then jumped into the freezing cold River next to it. My uncle dared us to swim across the river pool to the other side and we ended up doing it twice!
We rented a VRBO in town and stayed there for the night. The beds were great and it was close to the starting line but, for a while we didn’t have power and the shower didn’t have controls on it so Tristan took a freezing cold shower.
The next day was the Steamboat Loop which was so gorgeous. It was by far my favorite ride. It was so hot and there were a few steep, tough climbs but the view was amazing! We met the rest of the crew (My Grandpa, David, his friend, Robbie and my Uncle’s girlfriend Darlene) in town for lunch at an awesome burger joint. After we got back to the VRBO we went back to, you guessed it, Strawberry Hotsprings. This time I swam laps around the cold water, just a few because it is very cold.
When we where driving back we saw a momma moose and her baby, it was my first time seeing a moose so close. Now we made a taco bar, and are enjoying tacos. I’m scared for day six because it seems very hard. Day four is super long and Rabbit Ears Pass will probably take us a while to get up because again our one million pound bike, but it’s fine going slow because you can observe nature better.
I’m having a good time but a small part of me can’t wait until it is over so I can relax. But truly this has been such a great experience and I am happy I’m doing this. I’m exited to go home and brag to all my friends about how I rode Rabbit Ears Pass on a bike.
